Stuck for Things to do with the Kids?

It’s a challenge continually thinking of ideas to amuse children over the school holidays – well look no further!

There are hundreds of walks on OutmoreNI.com all across Northern Ireland which are short (for those little legs), have a dash of history, plus plenty of wildlife and nature and make for fun family-friendly adventures.

So we’ve picked a few for you and listed them below. The following trails are all circular walks under 5 miles and allow dogs so you can also bring along your four legged friend.

Giant’s Ring Trail | Belfast | 1.5 miles
A green oasis in the heart of Belfast, Minnowburn is full of beautiful trails verging the Lagan or heading through woodland and farmland. It lies in the Lagan Valley Regional Park and is a great place to walk through fields alive with the sounds and smells of nature, or stroll along the banks of the Lagan and Minnowburn.

Whyte’s Estate | Co. Down | 2.2 miles
Enjoy a quiet stroll along woodland paths and a country lane within this small, family owned estate located on the edge of the pretty village of Loughbrickland. The woodland trail was extended with the opening of the Boundary Trail in 2008 and combined they create a 2.2 mile circular walk.

Nixon Hall Trail | Co. Fermanagh | 1.6 miles
The Nixon Hall Trail offers a unique walking experience with panoramic views of the Arney River Valley, Knockninny Hill, Enniskillen, Benaughlin, Belmore and Cuilcagh Mountains. The trail leads to the ruins of Nixon Hall, where a spur continues to a viewpoint offering views of Laragh Lough and Upper Lough Erne.

Peatlands Bog Walk | Co. Armagh | 2.5 miles
Peatlands Park is a beautiful Country Park with a range of walks to suit all levels of abilities. The bog walk, as the name suggest, takes visitors through the bogland landscape of the park and also takes in hazelwood glades and grassland.

Knockmany Forest – Anya’s Tomb Trail | Co. Tyrone | 2.7 miles
Knockmany Forest is a collection of woodlands that lie within four miles of Augher. On this walk visitors can access the Knockmany Passage Tomb (Anya’s Tomb) which is an ancient burial monument on the summit of Knockmany Hill.

Prehen Wood | Co. Derry~Londonderry | 0.8 miles
The Woodland Trust’s Prehen Wood is one of Northern Ireland’s rare and irreplaceable ancient woods and is a beautiful woodland on the outskirts of Derry~Londonderry city. There are a number of sculptures throughout the woodland that will lead you on your walk and as you enter the wood you will see a large wooden red squirrel carving.

Ronan’s Way Blue Loop | Co. Antrim | 2.3 miles
Located on the McAuley Farm, a stretch of land in memory of Ronan McAuley, a true Glens man who had a dream that more people would explore and enjoy the Glens of Antrim and the exquisite views of the land that he called home. There are 4 looped walks with the blue loop providing rare access to one of the stunning Nine Glens of Antrim – Glendun.
