Ballymoyer Forest

Ballymoyer Road Newtownhamilton Newry, Armagh

Ballymoyer, a mixed woodland, has all the atmosphere of a fairy glen with deep mossy ferned banks clothed in blankets of primrose, celandines, bluebells and foxgloves in Spring and early Summer.

The forest was once the demesne of the Synnott family, a wealthy family of linen merchants this wooded glen was one of the first properties to be donated to the National Trust. The Castle no longer stands but the wood offers pleasant meandering woodland trails through this pretty glen. The forest is approximately one mile from the village of Whitecross.
