Brown's Bay Beach is a popular sandy beach on the northern end of Islandmagee.
Brown's Bay Beach is 300m long with rocks and loose boulders around the edge. The rural setting and the relative remoteness of this site gives it a real "away-from-it-all" feel. The view across the horizon is beautiful showing five headlands all the way up the Antrim coast.
Brown's Bay Beach is 6 miles from Carrickfergus using the A2 and B90.
TRAIN: There is a railway station at Ballycarry and from there it is 5 miles to the beach. However, if you intend to walk, please note that there are no footways on these roads. While traffic is generally not heavy, a 60 mph limit operates on the country roads and there are many blind bends. A closer alternative is to arrive at Larne Harbour Station and take the ferry to Islandmagee.
BUS: There are two bus services to and from Brown's Bay Beacheach day.
Most roads within Islandmagee have little traffic. The B90 would be the busiest at certain times of the day as it is the main commuter road for workers at Premier Power located at the northern end.
The easiest way to get to Brown's Bay Beach by foot is to take the passenger ferry from Larne Harbour and walk from Ballylumford Harbour to the beach. The distance is only 1 mile, there is a footway the entire length and traffic is light.
