Here you can visit the impressive yew tree terraces four tier, exotic, the restored Victorian sunken gardens and stroll around the stunning Temple Water or relax along the Lough Shore in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Whether you are looking to walk, cycle or horse ride, there are over 13 miles of multi-use, multi ability trails at Castle Ward to take you along the Lough shore or through the sheltered woodlands. There is also a 7.5 mile ‘Hoof Trail’ that is suitable for horses.
Its location on the shores of Strangford Lough in County Down, makes it an ideal location for those wanting to head out on the Lough in a canoe or go for a dip in the tranquil waters.
Other attractions include the Victorian laundry, corn mill, saw mill, Georgian farmyard and the Strangford Lough Wildlife Centre – film locations for the smash hit television series Game of Thrones. In addition, the eccentric 18th-century mansion with its unique mix of Gothic and Classic architecture and design rests on a rolling hillside and looks out over the Lough is open to the public
Those wanting to make a weekend of it can avail of the Caravan site, Potter’s Holiday Cottage and award winning camping pods tucked away in the woods in the heart of Castle Ward Estate
Stroll through the sunken garden and see vivid reds, yellows, greens and pinks from flowers and subtropical plants in this four tier Victorian garden.
Watch our resident crafters create hand-made pottery and jewellery before your eyes, while children draw and drive toy tractors in the barn.
You can also head out on the Lough in a canoe, climb and abseil the cliffs, and build a raft with Clearsky Adventure.
Round the day off with a treat in our tearoom or browse the gift shop and pick up a bargain at the second-hand bookshop.
