Whitespots is a former lead mining area on the edge of the Clandeboye Estate near Conlig. The area contains the only known occurrence of the mineral harmotome in Northern Irelan and the village subsequently became one of the most important sources for minerals in the United Kingdom.
Mining finished around 1910 after almost 60 years. Reminders of the industrial nature of the site can still be seen today. The area was etablished as a Country Park in 1995.
Please note that the lead content of the old spoil heaps means that children should be discouraged from playing on them.
