First sighting of Asian Hornet Confirmed in Northern Ireland

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) has confirmed a recent sighting of the Asian Hornet after having been contacted by a member of the public.

The public have been asked to remain vigilant after one of the creature’s was spotted in Dundonald on 10th October.

The Asian Hornet is an incredibly successful predator and dangerous invasive species.

NIEA officials have deployed specialist equipment and commenced a monitoring programme involving live traps and visual survey to determine if this is an isolated individual or whether there may be a nest.  

What to do if you see an Asian Hornet in Northern Ireland?
