OutmoreNI recently set a challenge to our followers on socials; to stop scrolling and sit with a peaceful waterfall video in the Mournes for one minute.
The challenge was inspired by a startling statistic; the average adult now spends around 4.5 hours a day looking at a phone screen.
Take a moment to let that sink in. That’s not far off a full working day, every single day, spent scrolling, tapping and swiping; and the figure is even bigger when you add in laptop useage.
Now compare that to how much time we spend outdoors. For many of us, the honest answer is nowhere near enough.
It doesn’t have to be that way, and the good news is that the outdoors is always there waiting, no download required.
We’re challenging you now to swap a little screen time for some green time. It doesn’t need to be a grand expedition. A walk in your local park, a wander through a nearby forest, or ten minutes by the water all count. The aim is simply to get outside, breathe some fresh air, and give your eyes and brain a break from the glow.
Not sure where to go? That’s exactly what we’re here for. Head to OutmoreNI.com and you’ll find hundreds of outdoor trails and places right across Northern Ireland, many of them closer to home than you’d think. Filter by activity, explore by region, and pick somewhere new to discover.
So here’s the ask: put the phone down, pick a spot, and get outdoors today. Your seven and a half hours of screen time won’t miss a few minutes, but your mind and body will thank you for them.
Find your next adventure at OutmoreNI.com and stay on the Right Side of Outside.
